14. Give two reasons why fats are stored in the humps of camels.

Answer:

Fats contains more carbon-hydrogen bonds and yield more money energy (38 kj/g  ) than the same mass of carbohydrates (17 KJ/g ) .Fats are stored in the hump of camel as an energy stored and to reduce the body weight to make locomotion easier .Camel lives in the desert where conditions are hot and dry .It has problem obtaining sufficient water .Oxidation of fats produces metabolic water which can be used by the camel .
