12. Discuss the importance of calcium and phosphorus in the human body.


Answer:



Calcium
·          Calcium is important in formation of bone and teeth.The skeleton give support and shape to the body.It provides attachment for muscles to enable movement.

·        Important in blood clotting.
·        Blood transmission across the synapse
·        Muscle contraction
·        Intracellular signaling


Phosphorus

·        Important in bone formation.
·        Componenet of phospholipid needed to form cell surface membranes and membranes of organelles.
·        Component of nucleic acids,DNA carries genetic information,RNA in protein synthesis.
·        Synthesis of cyclic AMP which act as secondary messenger.
·        Component of ATP and ADP needed in energy transfer.
·        Form sugar phosphate which are intermediate in photosynthesis and glycolysis.
·        Constituent of certain proteins.
